Job title: Development & Events Intern

Reports to: Development Director                               

Purpose: Hugo House is currently seeking a development intern. You’ll get to know local writers and readers and Hugo House members, volunteers, and staff while developing your party-planning skills and fundraising know-how. This is the perfect internship for someone who wants to become more involved in Seattle’s arts community and is interested in learning more about arts administration, event production, and nonprofit resource development.

Duration and hours:

·         Roughly 5 months (Jan - June)

·         Approximate hours: 8-10 hours/week (may increase during event weeks)

 

JOB SUMMARY

 

Primary Duties

In addition to some basic administrative support, the intern will assist in the production of development events for Hugo House. The intern will help development and programming staff plan for and create memorable fundraising events that are both effective outreach and efficient sources of income. The events in which the intern will be closely involved include:

·         Eat Read Hugo Auction & Gala, mid May 2017

·         Write-O-Rama, mid-June 2017

 

The intern will also assist with donor relations in the following ways:

·         Securing in-kind donations for events from local businesses

.          Distributing information about sponsorship opportunities to local businesses (in person and by email)

·         Coordinating event participant communications and donor acknowledgements

·         Other duties to be assigned

 

Desired Skills/Qualifications

·         Excellent communication and organizational skills

·         Detail-oriented

·         Ability to handle confidential information and maintain confidentiality

·         Ability to approach issues with creative solutions

·         Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

·         Ability to be flexible and work with fluctuating schedule

·         Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel and Word

·         Experience with customer relationship management systems and/or databases a plus

·         Previous event planning or previous nonprofit experience a plus

·         Graphic design experience with InDesign or Publisher a plus

·         A love of literature and the arts

 

Position Conditions

This position requires proficiency with computers, ability to lift 20-35 pounds, and navigate stairs.
